How to Apply KT Insulin Pump Patch

Getting Ready To Apply Your Insulin Pump Patch

The KT Tape Insulin Pump Patch is made with our exclusive KT Tape Extreme adhesives.  Follow the same skin preparation steps shown here as you would for our other Tape products. This guide is ideal for anyone managing insulin infusion through pump therapy or using continuous glucose monitors.

How To Use KT Tape Insulin Pump Patch

Best Practices Before Applying the Patch:

  • Apply before activity:  Apply at least 1 hour before exercising or exposing patch to water.  This will help ensure strong adhesion to the skin.
  • Clean Skin: Use rubbing alcohol to ensure the skin is clean and free from oils or lotions.  Allow to air dry before applying patch.
  • Trim Hair:  Trim hair to ensure best adhesion to skin.

These steps are especially important for those using the patch for secure insulin delivery and to avoid detachment during daily activity.

Step-by-Step Instructions: Apply Your KT Tape Insulin Patch:

The KT Tape Insulin Pump Patch is applied over and around your Insulin Pump device.  Follow your device instructions to properly apply your device prior to application of the KT Tape Patch.

  1. Peel the center backing paper away to expose the adhesive on the patch.  Avoid touching the adhesive side of the patch.
  2. Apply an exposed section of patch directly over and around the insulin pump, ensuring that the edges cover the flange around your insulin pump device.
  3. Peel away the remaining backing paper from the patch and press the patch to the skin.

When applying the insulin pump patch, users managing Type 1 diabetes or using CGM systems like Omnipod benefit from enhanced support and secure fit.

Aftercare Tips for Patch Longevity:

  • Do not dry with heat:  When the patch is wet, gently pat dry with a towel.  The KT Tape Extreme adhesive is designed to stay in place through water, sweat, showers, etc.  The fabric is a synthetic material that will get wet and will dry quickly.
  • Trim any lifting edges:  For any edges of the patch that may lift or fray, trim with scissors to extend the life and comfort of the patch.

This secure patch for insulin pump devices helps reduce the risk of dislodging during physical activity.

How to Remove Your Insulin Pump Patch:

  1. For easier removal, apply baby oil to patch 5 minutes before removing.  This can help loosen the adhesive.
  2. Peel the patch up at the edge.
  3. If leaving the device on, place finger on the device to hold in place while removing and replacing the patch.
  4. Gently and slowly peel the patch back - not up.

Safe removal ensures minimal skin irritation for those relying on adhesive patches for continuous glucose or insulin pump systems.
