Baby, it's getting cold outside... But that won't stop you! Cold weather can make staying in seem like the easiest choice, but all the benefits of outside activity remain even when the temperatures drop.
A few different ideas of how to stay active and how to best prepare for comfort in cold temps can make all the difference!
IDEAS TO STAY ACTIVE OUTSIDE DURING WINTER WEATHER
- Go for a walk or a hike. Even on cold days, getting some fresh air and sunlight can be invigorating. Just be sure to dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear.
- Try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. These activities are great for a full-body workout and can be enjoyed in a variety of snowy landscapes.
- Go ice skating. This is a fun way to get some exercise and enjoy the winter weather, plus ice skating is a great workout for both overall cardio and targeting muscle groups like quads. By taping up before your workout, you can reduce muscle soreness by 50%!
- Build a snowman or have a snowball fight. These activities are not only fun, but they also provide some light exercise.
- Go for a swim. Many indoor pools offer open swim times, so you can enjoy the benefits of swimming even when it's cold outside.
- Try a winter sport like ice hockey or curling. These sports are great ways to stay active and have fun with friends or family.
- Go to a gym or fitness center. Many gyms and fitness centers offer a variety of indoor exercise options, such as cardio machines, weight machines, and group fitness classes.
With a little creativity and preparation, winter weather doesn't have to be a barrier to your fitness goals!
